Mexican fashion designer Leonor Aispuro draws inspiration from her heritage to produce “diaphanous designs made for comfort and style.”
Having grown up in Phoenix after immigrating from Mexico, Aispuro blends her love of vintage garment construction with her appreciation for the human form to make truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Aispuro started creating garments at a young age by watching her mom, aunt and sisters sew. She then went on to attend The Fashion Institute of Technology for sustainable design, which allowed her to create, design and produce her own line.
Despite living in New York for some time, Aispuro eventually moved back to Phoenix hoping for more time and space to create. She feels lucky to have grown up in Arizona and credits the desert landscape for influencing her work.
“I am constantly inspired by our sunsets and I love creating pieces that can almost blend into the elements,” she says, “like stepping out of a painting.”
Aispuro blends her love of vintage garment construction with her appreciation for the human form to develop intricate, translucent designs.
“I love to be able to accentuate the human silhouette, so I work with mesh and see through fabrics to create pieces that can be easily layered,” Aispuro says.
Once she gets a sense of how a fabric will move and flow, there’s no stopping her creative process.
“I have so many ideas,” she says, “so I try to be patient with myself.”
Aispuro hopes to continue creating capsule collections and produce on a small scale, while especially focusing on designing her textiles.
Leonor Aispuro’s collection will be on display during our happy hour next week on Thursday (11/11/21) from 5:00 - 8:00p.m. Stop by for cosmic punch by local fave Cosmic Hour and a meet & greet with the designers!
